The health status of a herd plays a big role as to the extent to which the genetic potential of the animal can be exploited – this applies primarily to the daily weight gain, feed conversion and longevity. For this reason, we at DanBred place great value on health. All DanBred nucleus and multiplier herds are subject to clear rules relating to protection against the risks of infection and health checks.
The majority of the DanBred facilities are also subject to the Danish SPF-SuS programme, where the rules for protection against the risks of infection and health checks are particularly strict.
You can read more about the SPF-SuS program here.
Health declaration
Due to the ongoing health checks, an ongoing health declaration system for each individual herd with documented information on health status is maintained for each individual nucleus and multiplier herd. A minimum requirement for DanBred pigs is that they are free of porcine dysentery, mange and lice.
The health certification enables you to purchase your animals from a herd with at least the same state of health as that which was already in your own herd.
