The DanBred breeding material from Yorkshire , Landrace and Duroc - Duroc can be acquired as both livestock as well as semen.
At DanBred, the breeding is only carried out with the three breeds mentioned above. We recommend that commercial herds use crossbreeds between DanBred Landrace and DanBred Yorkshire (LY or YL) as production sows. For this reason, we use both breeds as mother breeds. Furthermore, we recommend the use of the DanBred Duroc breed as a production boar, which is why we call this the father breed. The offspring from these are a mix of three breeds, D(LY) with 50% DanBred Duroc genes and 25% of DanBred Landrace and DanBred Yorkshire genes respectively. Our recommendation of this crossbreed is based on years of positive experience within this field; for example, the offspring of this crossbreed have a higher lean meat percentage and good meat quality.
There are two primary breeding strategies used to ensure continuous genetic progress in the sow herd. The facility can either purchase breeding pigs or produce their own breeding pigs, for example using Nucleus Management (Kernestyring®). It is also possible to purchase production boars or semen from DanBred Duroc boars directly from the artificial insemination stations.
