Production facilities with a nucleus herd produce LY/YL crossbreeds on the basis of a group of purebred DanBred Landrace and/or DanBred Yorkshire mother animals.
This group of purebred animals must make up approximately ten percent of the total amount of sows in the herd. The best 10-15 percent of these animals must be purebred core animals to provide young gilts for the renewal of the core. The rest of the purebred mother animals are used for the production of crossbreed sows to exchange the production sows in the herd.
